Located on the border between the Tambopata National Reserve and the Bahuaja Sonene National Park; is situated only five hundred meters away from the largest macaw clay lick known in the world. Tambopata Research Center is located here to support the protection of thousands species of birds, having become in a long term project to ensure the survival of these species. Due to its remote location away from houses and populated areas Tambopata Research Center is an excellent place for in-depth explorations of nature and wildlife of the Amazon. The small scale of its infrastructure and operations, and the presence of researchers and naturalist guides do not affect wildlife. The Tambopata experimentation center is seven hours (150 km) from the city of Puerto Maldonado, in the deserted heart of the Tambopata National Reserve; and to get there necessarily people have to stay overnight in one of the lodging nearby Tambopata River, where you can have a first contact with the Amazon, otherwise the canoe trip to the Reserch Center Lodge will be too long in one day.
The lodge area is amazing because you can see all kind of animals between monkeys often stumps squirrel monkeys, capuchin monkeys, howler monkeys, spider monkeys, capybara, caiman, and agouti. As well peccaries, tapirs and jaguars.
The Tambopata Research Center is built with traditional materials like wood native, Crisnejas, sugar cane and mud. The lodge consists of a flag with 18 rooms, which is connected by elevated walkways with 8 shared bathrooms, with the research center and the dining room. The dining room is an open space that also has a bar. The rooms are small and do not have private bathrooms, bathrooms are shared and not have hot water showers. Each room has two beds, mosquito nets, bedside tables and clothes hangers.
